Kindergarten Writing Journal June Adding Dialogue

Introducing dialogue to your writing?! In this journal pack, students are asked to practice adding dialogue to their stories. They will first brainstorm their dialogue using a comicstrip template. I have included additional things like story dice, an editing checklist, and dialogue words poster. Although this is my June pack, this pack could be used any time in the year as well.

Writing Journals for the Entire Year BUNDLE {K-1}

Each of my monthly packs includes:
-pictorial vocabulary (either presented on each page or in a printable picture spelling dictionary depending on the month)
-goal posters (to align with the goals at the bottom of each journal page- each month a new goal is added)

June’s theme includes:
-Adding dialogue to a story
-Using words other than “said” when using dialogue
-Editing one’s writing

Goals:
-using quotation marks to identify dialogue in one’s writing
-using adjectives to describe nouns
-stretching out the sounds in unknown words
-using correct punctuation

EXTRAS:
-interactive punctuation cards (to teach how to use and punctuate correctly when using quotation marks)
-idea brainstorming dice
-editing page (from May’s journal)
-a new word/spelling page: for students to keep track of challenging words they like to use often

Each month’s pack is tailored to support the development writing of a typical kindergartener at each month in the year. For example, September’s journal (labeling, one line for writing, etc.) will look much different from April’s journal (4 lines, 4 goals). My goal in creating these journals was to best support my students at each stage in their writing development.
