Hi! I’m Amy McDonald!
Born and raised in Seattle, I dreamed of becoming a teacher before anyone had even begun to ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up. After graduating college and getting my masters in Education, I taught third grade in Seattle. Boy it was harder than I thought teaching was but I poured my heart and soul into it. And I loved it despite all the challenges.
Just a year later, and by the surprise of many of our friends and family (who all reside in Seattle), my husband (then-boyfriend) accepted a job in Dallas, Texas!
When we arrived, I searched for a third grade position. Less than a week later, I accept a kindergarten position! I was excited and NERVOUS! KINDERGARTEN! What was I thinking?!
Well, it also took less than a week for me to FALL IN LOVE with kindergarten! It was definitely a challenge but it was also SO MAGICAL. The growth. The innocence. The pure goodness in these little bodies- the ones who just loved to learn, the ones who just loved being in the classroom, or the ones who just needed someone to remind them that they were loved- whatever it was.
While we lived in Dallas, I began revamping all the things I had created over the years (for my classroom) so that they could be shared with other teachers and I found myself taking a leap and listing them on TEACHERSPAYTEACHERS! YIKES! Because my husband and I knew NO ONE, I had plenty of time to spend ENTIRE weekends working on products for my classroom and then perfecting so that more teachers had access to them.
Fast-foward a few years and my husband and I found ourselves getting the opportunity to move back to Seattle. After accepting another kindergarten position in Seattle, we quickly became pregnant with our first son, Carter. I was determined to continue to work at least PART-TIME in the classroom after Carter was born, but after the position I was offered could no longer be funded by the district, I decided to take a year of leave from the classroom! AGAIN YIKES!
I worked (and continue to work) furiously through every nap Carter took and after lots of (trial and error) learning how to balance my work/mom life, I decided if I could STILL continue to stay at home AND share my love of teaching with the teaching world, I had to take the leap.
Fast-forward two more years and you’ll now find me raising my two young boys, Carter and Jaxon AND still sharing my love of teaching with classrooms all over the world! Carter is now old enough to enjoy some of my creations too and so be on the lookout for that as well!
THANK YOU FOR THE SUPPORT AND FOR STOPPING BY!
Amy
